The English Connection

In 1963, Beatlemania was taking over the world...

On 3rd August after nearly 300 performances at Liverpool’s Cavern Club, this was the day of The Beatles’ final show at the venue.  Tickets for the final show had gone on sale at 21 July at 1.30pm, and sold out within 30 minutes.  The world would never be the same again.

However The Big Ticket was for another gig, 4,000 miles away in St Louis, Missouri.

Michael John Laird married Miss Katherine Alice Lueddecke, daughter of Albert H Lueddecke and Alice (McAtee) Lueddecke, before whisking her on the Queen Elizabeth, back to Southampton, England, to start married life in Woking, Surrey.

They had met at Cornell University where Michael had been working as a mathematician on space projects, and Katherine had been studying for a masters' degree in nutrition.

The St. Louis Globe-Democrat, Tuesday, August 6, 1963 records the issuing of the marriage licence.
